Fungal Foray -

Nico Woodward

Beneath our feet lie vast myecelial networks. From these networks emerge fungal fruit or Mushrooms. Fungal Foray takes a dive into our Native fungi present here in Aotearoa. Bigger than life, these bio-luminous, mycologically correct mushrooms allow you to control the way they shine at night.

Artist Bio

Nico Woodward is a large scale, recycled material artist based in Auckland. His work focusses on using materials that would otherwise be destined for the dump and has created installations for events in Aotearoa/New Zealand, Canada, USA and Mexico. He subscribes to the ethos that it’s not trash, just art that hasn’t been built yet.

A nurse by trade, Nico seeks out creative artistic endeavours that both challenge engineering norms and have a subtle political discourse. Building large scale interactive art helps bring out the inner child in participants, and engages people in a different way than traditional art normally does. He also seeks out collaborations with other folks to both teach and learn from. This process enriches the artistic experience and provides for a wider range of possibilities than he could hope to achieve on his own
