Through the Falls -
Daimen Jones
Cascading strands of light fall from the Quayside Apartments, representing the essence of Wairere Falls — a sacred site and taonga for local iwi. Though the falls are now hidden from view by this very building, Through the Falls brings their presence back into focus through light, symbolism, and remembrance.
The installation honours what can no longer be seen but is still deeply felt. Each strand mirrors the flow of water, creating a quiet moment to reflect on the connection between people, place, and history. It asks viewers to see not just with their eyes, but with memory and respect — passing through what is absent to feel what endures.
