The culmination of a years research into musical vibration, Cymatic Connection symbolises the our everyday connections with each other and our vibrations into nature. A stand-alone modular synthesiser generates two separate evolving interacting melodies which each drive their musical signals into two speakers atop which sit two large silver wok-like bowls containing water. Each bowl has a powerful spotlight shining into it, the colour changing with the melodic notes. The melodies create cymatic patterns in the water and the light reflections of these rise and interact in the trees above and around the work, mixing vibrations and colour.

ARTIST BIO

Peter Hobbs creates spacious and emotive music and sound for film, dance, art installations and album recordings. He has won numerous international and national awards and has a Masters in Environmental Sound Art, frequently exploring the terrain between electronic music and nature. He has exhibited and performed at festivals around the country including Luma, Splore, Takapuna Winter Lights and the New Plymouth Festival of Lights.
